![]() The story acquired through this traversal is unengaging, and you’re really only there for the recruitment of new crewmates and buying new equipment. You fly from ship to ship, often from one story location, where you’re given a little information on the current chapter’s happenings, to the next. ReviewSteamWorld Heist is a game that has a fairly solid, though equally unremarkable gameplay loop. So this is not a "recommend against", just "not recommended". Even the story and the little bits of dialogue are quite enjoyable. The art, animation and sound design are absolutely great. I generally bounce off this style of game immediately, but I managed to make it to the end, because of its style. Having to balance the difficulty myself is another thing I don't like much. Unfortunately, this type of grinding meant I was breaking the game balance, with character and item progress often leapfrogging any progress I had made as a player, and removing any challenge from the levels. ![]() As I replayed levels, I managed to enjoy the tactical aspects a bit more. Towards the end of the game I found that I had to level up a bit to ease my progress, and the experience changed. The usual RPG pain / relief cycle, which is not something I like. ![]() ![]() This was interrupted by short moments after levelling up, in which my slightly overpowered squad allowed me to engage *less* with the mechanics. Initially I found the gameplay to be an annoyance: slow animations, with hard to read levels and enemy behaviours. ![]()
